Lyle S. Hallman Foundation

Before You Apply

The Foundation is both responsive and proactive – we respond to requests for funding and we initiate community discussions and projects to address key issues.

We have a philosophy of engaged philanthropy. We want to work collaboratively with you. We encourage all interested organizations to get in touch with us prior to submitting an application – we will often work with an organization to develop and refine a proposal that is a priority for our Foundation. A meeting with one of our staff also provides an opportunity to discuss whether the proposal meets our criteria before an applicant invests significant time and resources in completing a full proposal.

Workshops

In advance of an open application period, we host information workshops to learn more about the Foundation and our granting programs. Please follow the link below to register.

Who Can Apply?

We focus our funding on organizations and activities in our home community of Waterloo Region.

As a charitable foundation registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation may only make grants to registered charities or other qualified donees under the Income Tax Act.

We recognize that the ways to do good in our world are changing. In certain circumstances, applications will be accepted from non-qualified donees working directly with a charitable partner. If your organization is not a registered charity or qualified donee, but you have a proposal that meets the Foundation’s funding priorities and criteria, please contact us with a brief outline of your organization and project proposal. We may be able to assist.
